Where It All Began

Once upon a time, in a land ruled by digital dating sites, two people met on OKCupid… And somehow spent the first 6 months of their relationship "definitely not dating" while going out to dinner and talking about themselves, their likes and dislikes, their interests, and sharing many an adventure.

Finally, Dandelion got the courage to plan something big and romantic the day after Valentine's Day in 2022, and took Aiden ice skating, after which the two couldn't bear to part, and spent the next several hours exploring downtown Lafayette, CO and cozying up in a bookstore/wine bar.

At the end of the night, Aiden asked Dandelion, "Was that a date?"

And Dandelion replied, "I'd like that."

Aiden and Dandelion spent the next 3 years laying the foundation on which they hope to build the rest of their (very long) lives.

The Proposal

Three years in, and it was Time. Dandelion and Aiden spent time designing their engagement bands, which were thoughtfully and lovingly crafted by Dandelion's parents, Russ & KK Jones.

Dandelion made a very thorough, very romantic plan. They would propose on the official 3 year anniversary of their relationship with Aiden, after a wonderful day of relaxing adventures, while stargazing after dinner.

The day began as it should, with breakfast at Lucille's (as was their anniversary tradition), getting manicures (common enough on anniversaries that Aiden didn't suspect it was for a reason), and an afternoon spent at a spa getting massages together (Aiden's unsuspecting, but perfect, idea). This, however, was where the very careful plan Dandelion had pulled together promptly fell apart.

They had planned to do hotpot together for dinner, a cozy, shared meal on a cold winter day—the perfect, romantic experience to set everything up for them to ask a very particular question. This plan was thwarted by a very long wait list at a restaurant with no reservation options. They chose a different hotpot restaurant, and dinner was presided over by the smell of less than fresh fish. This was fine, they could still go stargazing, right?

Wrong.

A snowstorm had blown in, hiding the stars from view and making driving into the mountains a less advisable adventure. And so, Aiden and Dandelion headed to their newly purchased, unfurnished, half painted home to feed two very impatient dogs their dinner, Dandelion all the while trying to come up with a new plan and sure that Aiden had caught on to what was actually going on.

Dandelion proposed in that new, unfurnished, half painted house, in front of the back door, having forgotten about 70% of their speech. And Aiden? Well he was somehow still surprised. (Don't worry, he still said yes!)

Aiden and Dandelion ended their imperfectly perfect night with cigars and whiskey at a local lounge, where Aiden was congratulated many times on catching someone who thought cigars and whiskey were a good way to celebrate.

FAQ

Where do I park?

Parking at the venue is limited, so please carpool if you can — aim for 3–4 people per car. If you're staying at the Hampton Inn, teaming up with other guests (or sharing a ride) is the easiest way up the hill.

What should I wear?

Dress your best — semi-formal to formal, or traditional indian attire are encouraged, but not required — dress as feels natural and comfortable to you. We just want you looking and feeling great. One practical note: the venue sits up on Lookout Mountain, and September evenings can turn chilly once the sun goes down — consider bringing a layer.

Will there be drinks?

Yes — wine and beer only (no liquor). The bar runs on drink tickets, which you'll receive when you arrive — no cash needed.

Things to do in Golden & Denver

Making a trip of it? The wedding is the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, so many of you will have Monday off — a perfect excuse to explore.

Around Golden

  • Downtown Golden — stroll Washington Avenue under the famous “Howdy Folks!” arch, then walk (or tube!) the Clear Creek Trail along the water.
  • Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave — at the top of Lookout Mountain, minutes from the venue, with sweeping views over the plains.
  • Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre — 15 minutes away in Morrison. Wander the formations, hike the Trading Post Trail, and check the concert calendar — the park closes early on show days.

Into Denver

  • Meow Wolf: Convergence Station — four floors of immersive, otherworldly art you wander through. Timed tickets — book ahead, especially for weekends.
  • Union Station & LoDo — the beautifully restored 1914 train station, ringed with restaurants and bars; nearby Larimer Square for more dining and boutiques — or try a ghost tour.
  • RiNo Art District — colorful murals, breweries, and food halls just north of downtown.

Itching to hike? North Table Mountain and the Lookout Mountain trails start practically in town, and Golden Gate Canyon State Park is about 30 minutes up the road. Further afield, Boulder (~35 min) and Rocky Mountain National Park (~1.5 hr — timed-entry permits are usually required into October, so plan ahead) make great day trips.
